Features

ARTIST NOTES: Mount Buffalo, located in Victoria, Australia, is renowned for its striking geological features, geographical significance, and tourist appeal. The gorge at Mount Buffalo is located near the Chalet and popular look outs, at the north eastern corner of the massif. The whole area is primarily composed of granite, formed over 400 million years ago when molten rock from the earth's core cooled and solidified into granite deep underground, followed by uplift of the “high country” raised it above the surrounding plains. Erosion of this granite has created dramatic cliffs and rock formations, offering insights into the processes of weathering and erosion. Where the Crystal Brook has run off the surrounding area it has cut a deep channel through which the creek makes a spectacular exit in the form of the Crystal Brook Falls, which cascades down to the bottom of the Gorge, which it has formed over millenia For a few weeks in Spring & Autumn, from the lookout at the top of the falls, the sun can be seen rising through the gorge This photo was taken at dawn on a chilly 10th October 2024 This Photo is printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Metallic Paper with archival quality Inks. I frame my works myself using Australian Hardwoods. Prices are for Mountain Ash but other timbers are available subject to what I can get from my suppliers A limited edition of 5 prints only will be created This is print 1 of 5 Price is for pick up only but if you'd like this work freighted please contact me at john.rapley@gmail.com to discuss options
